OC Scribes, Neighbor

 My name is Amanda Lenton.  I am a mother of two children, a professor of composition, and owner of OC Scribes.  I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English from CSU Fullerton along with a Master's Degree in Rhetoric and Composition from CSU Long Beach.  I am fully credentialed to teach Reading and Writing to all ages of students.  In the past ten years of teaching, I have learned that students are able to improve their writing significantly when they recieve individual feedback and suggestions on their drafts.  In the college classroom, I hold regular individual conferences with my students to give them the best shot at success. From these experiences, I designed the online Essay Help Service.  Together, the student and I address content, organization, cohesion, grammar, and mechanics in order to submit the best essay possible!

     While my responsibilities in the working world are to teach college students compositon at CSU Long Beach and Cerritos College, I also have a vested interest in inspiring young writers ages to compose with confidence and creativity.  As my children progress through elementary school, I notice that writing is difficult for them.  It's not that they can't do it, it's that they don't WANT to do it.  Writing is an expression of the self, and I want children to enjoy it!  Children should be encouraged to take risks and be creative in their writing.  I believe it is important to get kids excited about life and then to capture that excitement in writing.  While we do practice the serious stuff (like commas), the rules are useless if the student has nothing to say.  Students should be encouraged to express their own ideas, plans, and emotions through words on the page.  This is precisely what I do with students at Summer Scribes Writing Camp and One on One Tutoring.
