The cultural center features a path with a series of markers that explain the region's history, from the Native American Gabrielino Tongva tribe that lived here roughly 5,000 years ago, to the Spanish and Mexican Ranchos who followed, and ultimately to the Hellman Ranch settlement.

The college recently received accreditation from the Transword Accrediting Commission International, a commission for evangelical educational institutions. In addition, the school currently educations 133 students working to earn their Associate degrees in biblical studies. The school is affiliated with Cottonwood Church, and classes are held at the curch's original location prior to the construction of the church campus on Katella Avenue. Several graduates have returned to the school as instructors. Cottonwood Leadership College's director is Kenneth Mulkey, associate pastor at Cottonwood Church.

The lion is the Oak Middle School mascot, and a pride of lions is featured in a mural anchoring the school's outdoor auditorium. The school has a very low rate of disciplinary issues such as expulsions or suspensions and scores high on standardized testing. A majority of the students at Oak Middle School exceed the state's average proficiency levels in all categories - English, math, science and history. Programs at the school include choir and science Olympiad. Oak students have their choice of more than a dozen clubs offered at the school, including a paintball club, a dance club and a Christian club.
