They would most likely prefer those who are not on "budgets". We would get the passes butRead More try not to eat more than one meal and we don't buy souvenirs either.

We always get a season pass, because the break even point was three days. Now it's eight- yikes! IRead More still love it and we'll still visit, it's just a bitter pill to swallow.

And still they appear to have an employee morale problem ? When you have $5.7 BILLION in profit onRead More only $42 BILLION in revenue every year, it means you have a special value that few can substitute.

Funny how when Ruby's was there, the end of the pier was kept up and somewhat clean. Just sayin..Read More Also, how amazing the City claims to not know how all of a sudden the end of the pier and the building is so dilapidated yet states they changed management companies recently. Maybe and I'm grasping here the city wasn't doing their part in keeping up that end of the pier...When property owners have property managers running their properties, isn't it their responsibility to make sure the managers are doing their job? I smell a fall guy here...

Seal Beach again wins the worst managed city award....wow how dumb and dumber screwed up onRead More Ruby's.....the summer is here and they will never recoup there dollar loss, and the merchants will loose even more due to the loss of additional foot traffic that went to Ruby's......I guess this is a good payback lesson, half a loaf of bread is better than none....
The Beast ! June 7, 2013 at 03:53 am
Quit belly aching ! The city will repair the property get it in tip top shape and hopefully we willRead More have a really cool seafood resturant with a beautiful bar at the end of our pier. So relax and eat your half a loaf of bread and quit smelling for a fall guy when summer is just around the corner.

Wow, The lawsuit alleges Ruby’s agreed to make at least $400,000 in improvements to the PierRead More before the end of its lease but failed to make the repairs or do regular maintenance, accumulating $170,000 in deferred maintenance. The city claims the rundown condition of the property is forcing officials to assess conditions for health and safety standards The building will not be ready for another restaurant to open until the city can further asses the situation. In another article it states that Ruby's was to build amenities for the fisherman, install an inside bathroom, another exterior bathroom and build an outdoor patio. Really, why would Ruby's be responsible for building another public restroom. Where would they put an indoor one? Also, I would assume that the city would have done inspections and if this property was in such bad condition would have fined, closed down or took some other action to make the building safe. Was this done? Also, when Ruby's submitted approval for repairs/modifications, were they approved by the city? Many of us would like to know as the majority of this town wants Ruby's back. Ruby's wants back as well. Right now there is no revenue and deferred repairs will need to be done the longer it sits vacant. Just sayin...

Northern California piers I visited had public restrooms and none on restaurant premises. SinceRead More there has never been a restaurant toilet there, how can the city expect Ruby's to build one, considering needed expensive ADA approval? That alone is expensive that I am aware of. Also...what does city of HB have on pier?
Tersesa Louisa Javier April 24, 2013 at 07:18 pm
The city bathrooms under the pier are disgusting. Was it the city that took all the sinks out so theRead More fisherman cannot clean the fish? What is it going to cost the city to sue Rubys? Why is our pier so filthy...cant the city steam clean it along with the sidewalks on Main St?I would rather have these things then new lighting on Main St.

Yet more news from Obamanomics.

I love the pride with which conservatives love to wave the flag of ignorance. Boeing's layoffs haveRead More been going strong since long before Obama. Here is a headline from 1/29/2009 (just 9 days into Obama's term, so a headline still reflecting the Bush tragedy years): "Boeing layoffs swell to 10,000" http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20090129/NEWS01/701299846 Now for anybody interested to see how Obama's economic recovery has helped trim those layoff headlines from 10,000 to 250 to 300, just go to any stock site and do a 5 year graph and you will see the most vivid depiction of the failure of Republican economic strategies leading into 2009 and the recovery under Obama every since. The graph will probably look pretty familiar, as it will most likely look exactly the same as your own personal investments, 401K, etc. looks over the same time frame.
Dave Garofalo April 16, 2013 at 01:18 pm
+ Boeing layoffs have always been part of our local landscape for at least as long as the strongRead More taxing policies, relatively unfriendly business practices and our of control worker's comp fees of the Sunshine State have been in place these past twenty years. The exit of corporate America from Southern California is simply a matter of fact. The mergers and consolidation plans of Boeing have gone through have not helped either. But for places like Huntington Beach, with a one-time high of perhaps 17,000 Boeing (past facility operators) employees to the low five digit numbers of 2013 are horrific. Boeing families helped create new bank locations, dry cleaners, restaurants...and entire network of commercial enterprises simply because of the mass migration of predominately engineering jobs here; notwithstanding the industrial complex that was created to support their material needs. A lesson well learned at all levels of government...economic development starts at home with jobs. Bye Boeing...we will miss in many, many ways.

sad. Los Alamitos would be a much better location for racing than the bull ring at the fairRead More grounds. This sport is killing itself with the California racing assoc leading the way to zero racing. Sad.

Greetings, First, don't get too excited. My bet is that #2 does reopen at 70% (which I support,Read More btw, I am a 20+ year San Clemente resident, not the usual loud environmentalist type imported from LA or SF.) But even if they do shutter it permanently, note that half of the comments here are irrelevant. Even if they shut it down, San Clemente remains without an Evac plan, and the site will continue to need one. There is no place to move even 1 oz, of the tons of radioactive materials. They could spend billions (add an extra few hundreds a year to your electric bill forever), tearing the site down. Even then there is exactly 0 chance that they will be allowed to move the nuke waste. There is no place in the US that will take it. As long as Harry Reid runs the Senate, he will continue use every ounce of power he has to prevent the US to have a nuke waste facility. So, we will be in essentially about the same amount of danger, whether #2 starts up, or not, now and 20 years from now. Perhaps you environmentalists out there could allow the 241 to be finished. That way you might just save 50,000 lives once the terrorists or earthquakes, or tsunamis do their thing. (oops, that would require some compromise, sorry, for suggesting it.) Oh well, San Clemente residents glowing in the dark could be fun for a while, we'll need less electric for street lights.

I think the new desperation "F n Easy" radio campaign is obnoxious. I guess they figuredRead More they'd get in the sewer as one last attempt at appealing to Americans. Place was boring, sterile and overpriced. Good riddance.

Trader Joe's or Whole Foods! F & E was over-priced!
gg April 19, 2013 at 01:27 am
F&E has so many organic wholesome products and that is all you here people screaming about theseRead More days. They carry gluten free, preservative free natural products and consumers just ignored this store. Too weird. I think they expanded too rapidly and maybe they should have changed the name of their stores..re branded themselves to "the healthy grocery" the "healthy place" or something like that. Remember, it took many, many years for Trader Joe's to catch on and expand. Very few had heard about them(they only had about 4 stores total in L.A. and OC in the 60's and 70's). They had "weird" tasteless products. Now you can't find a place to park to shop. I think F&E should have established themselves in the U.S. first, then after people caught on to them, then expand. Too bad...they really are just as good if not better than TJ's.
