Seal Beach is a coastal North Orange County city bordering Los Angeles County. It is separated from Long Beach by the San Gabriel River, which crosses under Pacific Coast Highway. With a population of roughly 25,000, Seal Beach turned 95 in 2010 and has come a long way from it's earliest identity as Bay City, an early 20th century tourist draw popular for its beachside roller coaster at the Fun Zone and for its lawless element and casino boat. Seal Beach is best known for its long wooden pier, its Old Town Main Street, the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, Boeing and Leisure World. Seal Beach City Hall stands out as the tall, strikingly white historic building that dominates 8th Street in Seal Beach. It is served by a five-member City Council elected by district. Seal Beach is a charter city 13.23 square-miles in size. However the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station and the National Wildlife Refuge, occupy a majority of the land in the city
