Run Seal Beach Gives $125,400 In Grants To Local Groups
The nonprofit donated grants to everything from the Girl Scouts to the Friends of the Library.
The nonprofit, Run Seal Beach, on Monday announced $125,400 in grants awarded to physical fitness and recreational activities for groups ranging from Los Alamitos High School Dance to the Seal Beach Jr. Lifeguard Program.
The money was raised through the Run Seal Beach race, and this year’s race revenues are among the largest ever with a 14 percent increase over the year before. The proceeds went to four dozen groups.
This year, Run Seal Beach introduced a new grant category called the Director Awards, which go to local organizations such as the Friends of the Library that serve the community in ways beyond recreation.

“We felt very strongly that there are a lot of wonderful local causes that small amounts of funds go a long way to help better our community,” Run Seal Beach Run spokesman Seth Eaker wrote in a written statement.
In the last nine years, the nonprofit raised more than $665,000, said Elizabeth Kane, the race’s treasurer. Some of this year’s fund will go toward new basketball courts at St. Hedwig School, permanent volleyball courts on the beach, fitness equipment in the parks, recreation materials for the Casa Youth Shelter and equipment for the Seal Beach Play Group, said Kane.
