Dozens gathered at the St Isidore Historic Plaza Sunday to enjoy scones and cupcakes and a variety of teas. The Royal Tea was hosted by the Comite Del Amor, a nonprofit working to raise $1.2 million to buy the historic church and plaza from the Catholic Diocese of Orange County. The church was closed in 1999 when the Catholic Church determined that it would be too expensive for earthquake retrofitting. The comite continues to use the plaza for community programs ranging from after school tutoring to AA meetings and food drives. The nonprofit aims to buy and reopen the church as a nondenominational congregation for the community.
