Back in Black: February is Black Cat Month

For the entire month of February, black cats will be the blue light special with reduced adoption fees at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.

Editor’s Note:  The Cat of the Week feature is written and submitted by Gail Bowers, a volunteer at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center where the animals are available for adoption. The shelter is at 1700 Adolfo Lopez Drive, Seal Beach, (562) 430-4993.

For the month of February, we will be featuring our sweet and sassy black cats and their adoption fee will be reduced to $50. Here are a few who are telling their story. There are many others, including Cordelia, Ashlyn, Chiclet, Raisinette, Inari, KitKat, Lucy and Sierra.

Check them out on our web site or better yet come meet them. You just might decide to take one home.

Hi, I am Disco. I was adopted as a kitten and had a home for more than three years. My family brought me back to the shelter because they are having a baby and had the silly idea that cats and babies do not do well together. This made me very sad, but everyone at the shelter is so nice that I am feeling much better now and am back to my friendly self.

I am named Disco because I walk as if I am dancing. I really enjoy life and am always in a good mood. I get along with other cats, so if you have any at home it will be just fine. Oh, one more thing, I am not an ordinary black cat, I have a short stubby tail which makes me look extra cute. I cannot wait to have my own home again. So come and meet me as soon as you can, and I will let you have the next dance - I promise.

Hi, I am Mallory. I arrived at the shelter as an expectant Mom and delivered six kittens about 2 weeks later. We all lived in a foster home while I nursed them. I was a very good mom and five of my kittens have already been adopted. The remaining one has been sick but is getting better and he and I are waiting for our turn for our own home. I am a sweet, friendly young girl who is ready to provide lots of love and affection to my very own family.

Hi, I'm Jitterbug. I am a black beauty with lovely green eyes. I am told that I am a real sweetie. I enjoy being held and cuddled and will crawl into any available lap. I had a home at one time, but my person died, and her family couldn't keep me. So I was brought to the shelter. I would be the perfect kitty for someone looking for a mellow, laid-back cat who enjoys laps and snuggling.

I'm Kalamata. I'm a big boy, but I can be a real cuddler once I get to know you! I get along well with other cats and am very sociable. I have one quirk, which is a kink at the end of my tail that makes me very easy to distinguish from our other black cats, who are much more ordinary.

My name is Valentino and I look like a fighter rather than a lover but looks are deceiving! I had a pretty rough life out on the streets. When I came into SBACC, I acted like a tough guy, but that was all a façade. I am now the Official Greeter in my room at the care center, and that is a very high honor. To be a “Greeter” you have to be charismatic, suave and extremely social. I am also kind, sweet and lovable. I would love to spend the rest of my life as the Official Greeter in your home! If you come to meet me, you are sure to find me irresistible.
