Abandoned on the Pier, I Was a Wretch, But Now I'm Irresistible
It's black cat month at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.
Editor’s Note: The Cat of the Week feature is written and submitted by Gail Bowers, a volunteer at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center where the animals are available for adoption. The shelter is at 1700 Adolfo Lopez Drive, Seal Beach, (562) 430-4993. Please like this column on Facebook to help these cats find homes.
We are promoting our black cats for the month of February. Their adoption fee will be just $50 all month. Last week five of our black cats told their stories. Here are the stories of three more.
Hi. My name is Ben, and I am about 1 year-old. I have no idea how I got there, but on Christmas Eve, I found myself on the Seal Beach pier in a cat carrier. A nice lady saw me and took me to SBACC where a lot of nice people spent about a month getting me healthy. I had mange, a yucky skin disease, but now my coat is just a perfect glossy black. I am a little shy and like to hide in cubbies, but I will come out for the right people. My friends at SBACC think I am a very sweet boy, and I love attention and cuddling and playing. I am now rooming with lots of other young cats, but I think I would much prefer a home of my own. I probably would be happy with a feline brother or sister.

Hi. I am Lucy, and I am about 2 years-old. I have the most beautiful glossy black coat. I came to SBACC with my brother, Desi, and we were both very frightened at first. Everyone thought we were feral cats because we didn't want to be touched. After a while, we both realized that no one at SBACC was going to hurt us. They just wanted to be our friends. Desi started to trust people before I did, and he was adopted, but I have changed a lot. I am one of the first to great people when they come to visit, and I love to play, especially with anything on a string. Now, I like it when I am petted, but I do not stay still too long - I would rather play. If you want a back-flipping, high wire artist who will make you laugh, I am the cat for you. I would be happy to go home with another cat or to a home that already has a cat or two.
Hi. My name is Ashlyn. I am about 1 year-old. My life has been very confusing lately. I had a home, and then I became homeless and was taken to SBACC. It seems like a really nice place, and they treat me well. But there are so many cats and dogs here, it is just not the same as having my own home. I am a young kitty with a beautiful black coat, and I love petting and lots of attention. I hope you will pick me as your new best friend.
