The United States women's water polo team, which trains in Los Alamitos, let a late lead slip away as it tied Spain 9-9 in its second Olympic match on Wednesday.
Courtney Mathewson, an Orange native, scored one goal to help the team come away with the tie.
The U.S. scored six of the first seven goals in the second half to take a 9-6 lead, but Spain scored three times in the final three minutes to tie the score at nine.
The Americans are still in first place in their group and will play China in their final group match Friday.
