The waiting period is over for the Seal Beach Surfing Championship.

Get out your wax and your wetsuit, because the waiting period for the Seal Beach Surfing Championship is officially over.

The contest will take place this weekend at the pier, the Seal Beach Lifeguard Department announced Monday.

According to the department, a northwest swell with favorable winds and fair weather all are expected this weekend. On Saturday, the surf is expected to be shoulder-high with overhead waves on Sunday.

A fundraiser for local charities, the contest has no prize beyond bragging rights. But that is enough to attract more than 150 contestants each year.

There is still time to enter the all-ages contest. The entry fee is $40, and the contest is open to all ages. For more information call Seal Beach Lifeguard Headquarters at 562-430-2613 or visit www.sbsurfcontest.com.
