After neither team could push across a score in regulation, Santa Barbara senior captain Sanford Spivey scored his 10th goal of the season in the 98th minute to lift the Dons to a 1-0 victory over Los Alamitos in a CIF Southen Section Division 1 boys soccer second-round match Wednesday afternoon at Los Alamitos High.

Spivey received a long pass up the left side from teammate Marco Sanchez, collecting the ball with a defender on his back. The goalkeeper had the near post covered, but Spivey struck the ball with his left foot from the corner of the box to the far post. Another Griffin defender just missed clearing the ball as it went between his legs for a goal.

The Griffins, runners-up in the Sunset League, came out strong in the overtime period with two good shots on goal that just missed. Los Alamitos finished 16-5-4.
