More Jumbo Waves Rumble Into O.C.

Two days of rip currents and towering surf are in the forecast.

The Beach Boys never sang about riptides, but perhaps you'll be inspired to fill the gap by this week's surf forecast, which predicts and waves up to 10 feet high through Thursday afternoon.

A storm system in the South Pacific is generating the turbulence, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect waves 5 feet to 8 feet high, with some sets running 10 feet high on south-facing beaches in Orange County, prognosticators say. Most of the big-wave action will take place tonight through Wednesday morning, but dangerous conditions are likely to persist until 5 p.m. Thursday.

The high surf will also create "strong and dangerous rip currents," forecasters said. Consult a lifeguard before taking the plunge.
