Los Alamitos Back in the Race(s) Friday

Thoroughbreds from Hollywood Park are expected to take up residence at the track beginning this weekend.

Horse racing fans will get the chance to check out the newly expanded Los Alamitos Race Course with eight races Friday, starting at 7 p.m., including the 350-yard Cypress Handicap stakes race for horses at least four years old, according to the Orange County Breeze.

The track reopened Tuesday for training following a one-week break to complete the track expansion. The project to expand the surface from five-eighths of a mile to a mile took six weeks, according to Daily Racing Forum.

Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing hits the track Friday night, according to Los Alamitos Race Course's website. The Cypress Handicap purse is $25,000 with a 9:48 p.m. expected post time.

Los Alamitos is also expected to become home to approximately 475 Thoroughbreds from Hollywood Park after that track closes its barn area next week, according to Daily Racing Forum.
