Los Al Delivers First Two Masters Wrestling Champs

Mason Kumashiro and Alex Redmond won titles in the heavy weight classes, leading a group of four Griffins that will compete in the state meet next week.

Some people think the Southern Section Masters Wrestling Championship is tougher than the state California State tournament.

If that's the case, then that's some good news for a couple of wrestlers from Los Alamitos. 

A school that had never before had a wrestler win a Masters Championship now has two.

Mason Kumashiro won the title at 195 pounds on Saturday to punch a first-class ticket to the State Wrestling Championships next weekend at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.

On the heels of Kumashiro's victory, Alex Redmond won the 285 pound class.

Both scored close 2-1 victories over their opponents.

Two other Los Alamitos wrestlers qualified for the state meet as well by finishing in the top nine. Max Kumashiro took fourth at 170 pounds, and Randy Howe finished ninth at 120.
