Interview With a Quarterback: First Los Alamitos High Football Game Aug. 31

Patch talks to 17-year-old Cody Marshall of Long Beach who says he plays to make his family proud.

With the first 2012 game coming soon, the Los Alamitos High School football team will get a chance to prove themselves Friday.

Head Coach John Barnes said he's been waiting for this game for a long time.

"I’m glad it’s finally here," Barnes said. "You know, you work so hard year-round to get to this game."

The game begins Aug. 31 at 7 p.m at Paramount High School.

Before each of the upcoming games, Patch plans to post a profile of one of the top ten players on the Griffins, starting with quarterback Cody Marshall, 17.

Name: Cody Marshall.

Age: 17.

Grade: Senior.

Height: 6 feet 4 inches.

Weight: 200 pounds.

Home City: Long Beach.

Jersey No.:  7.

Favorite subject: Math.

Favorite food: Fettuccini Alfredo pasta bowl.

Biggest challenge last year: "Probably changing from linebacker to quarterback this year. ... (I) was just used to being linebacker and hitting everybody and (now I'm) going back to quarterback and trying to be calm.

College he’s considering attending: Sacramento State.

Other sports he plays: Baseball. He plays first base and pitcher.

Who is he playing football for?: "Just playing for my family. To make ‘em proud."

What do you love about football: “it’s just the fact that there’s a victor and then there’s a loser. Someone always comes out on top. And that’s just the way problems are resolved.  (During the game) there’s nothing else outside, just football.”

Most anticipated game: “Definitely Edison, because it’s our rivalry game.  … They barely beat us last year.”

Anything else he wants to say: "I just want to thank God for the opportunity of being quarterback. He’s just blessed me with having fun this year."
