Seal Beach Local Steven Grgas in Johnny Depp's 'Pirates of Caribbean'

Local Old Town and former Griffin star, Steven Grgas, is a pirate in Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean.

Seal Beach Old Town local, and current pirate, Steven Grgas, landed a role in the recently released "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Grgas, who was a 3-point scoring machine for the Griffin basketball team in 2005, and a standout volleyball player for the Griffins his senior year in 2006, went on to play Division 1 college volleyball for the University of Hawaii.  Grgas graduated last year from U of H with a degree in communications.  It was just around graduation time last year when Grgas showed up for an open casting call on the island calling for "tall, athletic, potential pirates."  Upon entering the open casting call, one of the directors immediately approached Grgas and offered him an immediate pirate position.  Before you could say, "Pirates of the Caribbean," Grgas was indoctrinated with the cast, became a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) member, and the rest is in the film!

Grgas has an older brother who resides in College Park East, and his parents are lifelong Seal Beachers in Old Town.  Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Caribban opened in Europe this past weekend with the largest ever first week opening of any movie in history.  And, of course, the results will be the same here as the North American release is underway.
