State Offers New Tool for Researching Area Schools

Looking to make an informed decision? Access to info such as test scores, demographics and class sizes may help.

Want to compare public schools? The California Department of Education has a new tool to make it easier.

Called the School Quality Snapshot, you just plug in a school name and wait for it to generate a couple-page report that includes all sorts of information, such as academic performance, ethnic make-up, class sizes and much more.

It also includes averages for the school district the school's is located in and for the state. For example, Los Alamitos Elementary School, the report shows currently has smaller class sizes than the Los Alamitos Unified School District as a whole. And math and science scores there exceed district averages.

Happy researching.
