Los Alamitos resident Darrenn Platt was named assistant principal at Oak Middle School this week by the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
Platt, who assumed his new role Aug. 13, has worked in education for over 18 years and has been with the district for the past seven years.
Before coming to LAUSD in 2006, Platt taught middle school social studies, served as the special projects coordinator and ran the Peer Assistance Review program for the Bellflower Unified School District.
Platt served in Los Alamitos Unified as a learning specialist, social studies teacher, and response-to-intervention coordinator at McAuliffe Middle School.
Platt also served as co-principal for the district's secondary summer school.
Platt received his bachelor of arts degree from California State University, Long Beach and his master of arts degree in education administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
“My career goal is to help ignite each student’s unlimited possibilities," Platt said. "I’m excited to join the rest of the Oak staff in pursuing that goal, and I’m proud to be One of the Pride."
“Darren’s educational leadership background, heart for kids and community involvement make him the ideal person to join the Oak administrative team in serving the Lion Pride community," said Sally Neiser Oak Middle School principal.
Platt lives in Los Alamitos with his wife, Jenny, of 18 years and their three children. They are currently expecting their fourth child.
