Los Alamitos Unified School District Announces New Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

Los Alamitos Unified School District this week announced that Dr. Mark Johnson will serve as the new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.  

Dr. Johnson has worked in education for 14 years and has been with the Los Alamitos Unified School District for the past 11 years. He previously served as a math, science and English teacher at the secondary level, assistant principal at Oak Middle School, principal of Laurel High School, and director of assessment.  

“I am extremely grateful to the Board and Dr. Kropp for this amazing opportunity," he said, when offered the position. "But mostly, I am honored and excited to continue working in Los Alamitos Unified with such highly skilled and caring employees, incredible students, and supportive parents.”

Superintendent Dr. Sherry Kropp said, “Mark is a perfect fit for the job and is extremely dedicated to improving educational outcomes for students.  We are thrilled to have his expertise in the District.”

Mark currently resides in Huntington Beach with his wife Susan, first grade teacher in the Cypress Elementary School District, and his three daughters. His eldest daughter, Addison, attended the Jump Start Kindergarten program offered by the Los Alamitos Education Foundation.

Having earned a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Dr. Johnson also received a M.A. in Educational Leadership from National University, and a Doctorate in K-12 Leadership from the University of Southern California.
