Los Alamitos High School Dedicates New Track Tuesday

Students will begin using the new Los Alamitos High School track and field on Tuesday.

Los Alamitos High School will officially celebrate the opening of its new track and field facility during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

The new facilities, which include an all-weather track, new synthetic turf sports field and new lighting, were part of a $4 million renovation.

According to a news release from the school district, athletes will begin using the field Tuesday, but only during daylight hours.

The field's new lights are still under scrutiny from nearby neighbors as well as the Los Alamitos City Council, the Orange County Register reported. The school district said the lights will be utilized soon "pending additional testing and adjustments."

School officials also said that the new athletic complex will allow for multiple games to be played at once on campus and will accommodate multiple team practices.

"We are extremely excited to let our students and coaches practice and play on this state-of-the-art athletic complex," Los Alamitos Unified Superintendent Sherry Kropp said in a news release. "Coaches will be able to watch all levels within their respective programs, and athletes will be able to support one another."

Tuesday's ribbon cutting begins at 2 p.m. at the new track and field complex. Students, parents and community members are invited to attend and tour the new facilities.
