She's a chemistry teacher who knows the formula for learning.
Kathryn Currie was named the 2013-14 Teacher of the Year by the Los Alamitos Unified School District this week.
Currie has taught at Los Alamitos High School for 27 years and a total of 34 years in the profession.
According to a district release, Currie's past awards include Science Olympiad Outstanding Coach, Oak Leaf Honorary Service Award, UC Irvine’s Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher and Harry J. Aslan Fellow High School Teacher of the Year.
She has served as new-teacher mentor, instructional coach and faculty forum president, and she has also served on a number of committees including the Academic Council, District Curriculum Steering and the District Science Committee.
“Mrs. Currie is one of the finest teachers and leaders I have ever had the privilege of working with,” said District Superintendent Sherry Kropp in a written statement.
“She is simply spectacular," Kropp said.
The Los Al Board of Education honored Currie in a ceremony March 12.
