Just in Time to Bolster Spirits, the McGaugh Carnival Is Back

Featuring games, food and prizes, the annual McGaugh Elementary Carnival is Saturday.

It's time to laugh. It's time to play. It's time for the McGaugh Elementary Carnival.

The annual carnival is back just in time to give the Seal Beach community a  lift this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature food, games and fun to help raise money for Seal Beach’s only elementary school. The Parent Teachers Association, teachers, and students have high hopes that this will be the best carnival yet.

“In times of crisis, it is so important that we continue routines, especially events that promote happiness and togetherness such as Carnival. This year, more than ever, Carnival will be an opportunity for the community to unite for a positive cause and return to normalcy after the turbulent events of the past couple of weeks,” Said Principal Bill MacDonald.

Over the last two weeks, the McGaugh Elementary Community has suffered the loss of one of its own when the mother of a second grade boy was killed in the Salon Meritage shooting. As a result, the community has worked to embrace the little boy with an outpouring of gifts and donations. Coming on the heels of tragedy, this year’s carnival is important for Seal Beach in reinforcing the sense of community and normalcy, said school officials.

“It is always a very important event for children and parents and unites the community in many ways,” Said Renate Mircheff, a teacher at McGaugh.

The carnival is one of the school’s biggest fundraisers with much of the money coming from the silent auction held in the gym. In year’s past, the auction featured donated items such as jewelry and designer bags from local designers as well as services and gift certificates for spa days.

“We all work together to make it both fun and to raise substantial funds for the school,” added Mircheff.

This year, visitors will have a chance to try food from Z Pizza, Chronic Taco, O’Malley’s Hennessey’s, Javatinis, Funnel Cake, Kettle Corn, Dippin Dots, and Hawaiian Shaved Ice. Games will include old favorites from previous years as well as new ones like inflatable basketball, miniature golf course and Frisbee golf.

McGaugh Elementary is at 1698 Bolsa Ave in Seal Beach.
