Interview With a Griffin: Varsity Football Player Alex Redmond

Committed to the University of Oregon, Redmond, a 17-year-old Los Alamitos High School senior, said he plays for his family name.

It’ll be the Griffins vs. the Knights Thursday as Los Alamitos High School faces Lynwood High School.

(By the way, how about a movie about real griffins fighting real knights? You’re welcome, Hollywood.)

Weight:  295 pounds.

City: Cypress.

Position: Left guard.

Grade: Senior.

Committed to:  University of Oregon.

Favorite thing about football: “Putting people on their backs, definitely. … Just hitting people.”

Which game are you looking forward to the most? “Probably Edison. (So we can) get some payback.”

Favorite type of food: Carne asada.

Favorite subject tin school: History.

Anybody you’re playing for: “Just the name on my back. I’m going to be the first person in my family to be going to a university.”

Any challenges you faced in the past year?  “Getting in shape. I was a little out of shape. I had some bad weight. So now I’m about 295 now.”

Anything you want else to say: “Keep dreaming. Just keep dreaming. Always gotta have that dream.”
