Your Veterans' Day Guide

There are three community Veterans' Day events today as well as several holiday closures.

Veterans' Day is always the 11th of November, and it’s the day we honor the men and women in the military and the sacrifices they make for the country. This year’s local events  include solemn ceremonies to honor those who have given their lives for the nation as well as parties to celebrate the veterans in our community.

Events

  •  What: There will be a Remembrance Day National Roll Call of the names of more than 6,200 soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan in the past decade. About 250 of those names will be read at a ceremony in at Columbia College in Los Alamitos.
    When: 10:30 a.m.

  • What: Welcome Home Celebration. This fun event features a variety of creative ways to thank our veterans. The event will feature free food, entertainment, haircuts and manicures, and flu shots to veterans. Special visitors will include the LA Kings Ice Crew handing out Kings freebies, playing NHL12 and holding a free raffle for Kings signed merchandise. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) will also be on hand to honor the vets.

    11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Where:
    Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, 4522 Saratoga Ave., Los Alamitos, CA
  • What: Veterans' Day Celebration hosted by the American Legion Post 857 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4048 and featuring speaking speakers and patriotic songs.
    When: 11 a.m.
    Where: Ocean Ave & Main St, Seal Beach, CA 90740

Closures

In observance of Veteran’s Day City of Seal Beach and Los Alamitos offices and facilities will be closed. Trash collection and street sweeping will not be affected.

There will also be no school for students in the Los Alamitos Unified School District.

Banks and United States Post Offices are closed, and there will be no mail delivery.
