Seal Beach Police Look to Volunteers for Help

The VIPS program weekly training starts Oct. 27 and ends Nov. 17.

The Seal Beach Police Department is looking for civic-minded residents to apply for its Volunteer in Police Services (VIPS) program, particularly those who can work weekends and help during special events.

The VIPS Academy begins Oct. 27 and will continue run each Thursday evening until Nov. 17. Classes will be held at police headquarters, at 911 Seal Beach Blvd. Attendance at each session is mandatory. The academy provides training on the role and function of the volunteers.

Some of the duties that the VIPS volunteers perform are volunteer patrols in neighborhoods and business districts, aiding with special events and working with police records and fleet services.
