City Plans to Expand Old Town Drainage System

Seal Beach staff hope to widen storm drain on Electric Avenue from 5th Street to Corsair Way.

In this case, going down the drain would be a good thing.

Seal Beach plans to soon widen the storm drain on Electric Avenue from 5th Street to Corsair Way.

According to city staff, the project will set up connections for future drainage system growth and allow water to drain more efficiently. Verizon, Southern California Edison and SoCal Gas Company are currently relocating utility lines, so that the city contractors can start work.

According to Patrick Gallegos, city administrative manager, the utility companies haven’t given a “firm completion date,” but he expects drainage expansion to begin within a week or two.

Staff said they expect the project to continue through spring, and final repaving will start after the project finishes.

“The city asks for your patience to facilitate a safe environment during this project,” Gallegos said in a statement. “Please remember that during construction, parking and street access may be limited. Detour signs will be posted to direct traffic to alternate routes around the construction site.”
