Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station in the Midst of Navy's Largest Security Drill

Exercise Solid Curtain is under way at the weapons station, leading to some noise, traffic and closures around the base.

The Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station is in the midst of the Navy’s largest security exercise of the year.

The exercise Solid Curtain began in Seal Beach yesterday, briefly closing Anaheim Bay to civilian boat traffic in the afternoon. Over the next few days, residents may encounter increased traffic or noise around the base, as officials engage in drills and excercises aimed and tightening security at the base.

The exercise is designed to prepare the Navy in the event of an attack on the base, but it is not a response to a specific threat, said Gregg Smith, public information officer for the base.
