Rohrabacher: No Need for Extra Security

Congressman calls Arizona tragedy an "isolated incident."

Americans may be wondering how their political leaders will be conducting future meet-and-greets since the Tucson, AZ, tragedy last month. For Seal Beach and the rest of California’s 46th congressional district, constituents should expect procedures to remain unchanged the next time Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) appears at home in California.

“The congressman believes [the shooting] was an isolated incident…” communications director Tara Setmayer said. “He will not be deterred from performing his duties as a public servant because of the act of a lone, mentally disturbed man.” The safety and crowd control are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on where the event is held and for now, no additional security will be implemented, Setmayer added.

The Jan. 8 shooting took place in front of a Safeway supermarket, leaving Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in critical condition, wounding 14 others and claiming six lives, including that of federal judge John Roll and 9-year-old Christina Taylor-Green.
