Ramp from East 22 to 405 Reopens Saturday

The route closed Aug. 26 to allow crews to make room for more carpool lanes.

The eastbound 22 Freeway connector to the southbound 405 freeway will reopen at 5 a.m. Saturday, according to the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The connector closed Aug. 26 to allow crews to realign the connector to make room for additional carpool lanes on the 405.

In 2010, construction began on a second carpool lane on the 405 between the 22 and 605 Freeways. OCTA staffers expect construction to finish in 2014.

The construction is part of the $277-million West County Connectors project aimed at improving traffic flow by connecting carpool lanes on the 405, 605 and 22.

The city of Long Beach, the Long Beach Police Department, Caltrans and neighboring communities including the cities of Seal Beach and Los Alamitos worked with OCTA on the project.
