No More Unlimited Parking in Los Alamitos' Laurel Park

The Los Alamitos City Council places times restrictions on a popular parking lot.

The Los Alamitos City Council on Monday adopted an urgency ordinance that now limits parking at Laurel Park's 24 parking spaces to only three hours.

According to the city, construction activity at the adjacent Los Alamitos Medical Center has resulted in a full parking lot at almost all hours of the day, which has prevented residents from using the park's facilities.

"Parking at Laurel Park in the City has become problematic since the start of construction in the area as employees from local businesses are using the parking lot for parking at all hours of the day, leaving no spaces for those who wish to use the park," a city staff report stated.

Before the ordinance was passed, there was no time restriction on parking at Laurel Park.

The adopted urgency ordinance also grants power to the Los Alamitos Police Department to immediately begin enforcing the parking restrictions by issuing citations to any violators.

According to the city, the three-hour parking restriction will be enforced seven days a week.
