Lowenthal Gives Up Paycheck During Government Shutdown

The Democratic Congressman said he wanted to make sure he is not treated any differently from furloughed federal employees.

Rep. Alan Lowenthal announced Monday that he is giving up his paycheck until all federal employees working during the shutdown receive their pay.

Members of Congress are eligible to receive their monthly paychecks during the federal government shutdown, but all other federal employees will not be paid. Many members of congress have given up their paychecks.

"I had sincerely hoped we could avoid an irresponsible government shutdown by passing a reasonable solution to fund the government," said Lowenthal, a Democrat from Long Beach.
