Los Alamitos Appoints New City Manager

Bret Plumlee's contract was unanimously approved by the Los Alamitos City Council on Monday night.

The City of Los Alamitos on Tuesday announced the appointment of Bret Plumlee as the city's new City Manager.

Plumlee, who most recently served as the city manager of La Puente, will begin his duties sometime in November, according to a city staff report.

According to the city, Plumlee was chosen to lead Los Alamitos after "an exhaustive nationwide search." Plumlee has also served as the Assistant City Manger of La Quinta, the Director of Administrative Services for El Segundo, the Assistant Finance Director of La Mirada and the Finance Director of Rolling Hills Estates.

According to the staff report, Plumlee will serve a three-year contract and will be paid $170,000 per year with pension, medical, vision and dental benefits. Plumlee will also receive a potential 3 percent salary increase each year based upon his performance. 

"Mr. Plumlee possesses an extensive background in local government," Los Alamitos Interim City Manager Gregory Korduner said in a news release. "The Los Alamitos City Council is looking forward to working with Mr. Plumlee to advance the business of the Los Alamitos community in the years to come."
