Los Al Talks 2.5 Percent Cost of Living Raise for Part-Time Employees

Change would cost the city about $17,000 yearly.

About 100 Los Alamitos city employees might get a 2.5 percent cost of living raise this year.

The City Council discussed increasing the pay of about five dozen city employees at a special meeting Monday night.

City staff, who recommended the raise, said it would help make Los Al “more competitive with recruiting and retaining” workers, according to the staff report. According to staff, part-time employees haven’t had a raise since 2006 and work an average of about 45,500 hours per year.

Councilmembers said they might be supportive of the raise – especially for those who have worked with the city for a while – but they needed more information before they could make a decision.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on the entire city budget June 17.
