New Congressman Alan Lowenthal is Sworn In

The former state legislator became part of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Thursday. He was elected in November to a newly-created Long Beach/O.C. seat.

Alan Lowenthal was sworn in Thursday as the 47th Congressional District Representative to the 113th Congress, where he will represent most of Long Beach, Los Alamitos and other western Orange County cities.

As part of the process, a ceremonial swearing-in was also conducted in the U.S. Capitol for official photos to be taken, including this one.

The newly re-elected Speaker of the House, John Boehner, conducted the oath of office ceremony, said Lowenthal's communications director, Keith Higginbotham.

Lowenthal was elected in November 2012, to represent California’s 47th District, which includes most of Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Cypress, Westminster and Garden Grove.
