Job Applications Mistakenly Posted on City Website

Seal Beach officials contacted job applicants and police to notify them of the inadvertent posting in case of identity theft.

Seal Beach officials issued an apology today after the résumés of more than 50 job applicants were inadvertently posted on the city’s website.

The incident happened in July, and between 50 and 100 résumés were posted online. The city recently updated its website, and the résumé faux pas was caused by a problem with the city’s new online application feature.

Once brought to the city’s attention, it was immediately corrected, said Assistant City Manager Sean Crumby. The city notified the applicants as well as the Police Department so that they could be on guard for instances of identity theft.

However, no such incidents have been reported, added Crumby.

“All you can do is apologize and try to make it right,” he said.

In a written statement City Manager Jill Ingram added, “The City, in its ongoing effort to be transparent and accountable, acknowledges the problems with the employment section of the City website. I can assure you that the website has been secured, all personal information removed from the site, and every effort to contact each person has been made.”
