Four Candidates File Paperwork to Run for Los Al City Council

Two Seal Beach City Council incumbents will be unopposed in the upcoming election.

Ready, set, run!

Four people filed paperwork to run for the two open seats on the Los Alamitos City Council before the Friday deadline, according to the city clerk's office.

The potential candidates are (in alphabetical order) Demi Devaney, Dean Grose, Richard Murphy and incumbent Ken Stephens.

According to the city clerks office, incumbent Marilynn Poe did not file paperwork to run for reelection.

In Seal Beach, the two incumbents are running uncontested.

The only people to pull and file papers to run are incumbents David Sloan and Gary Miller for City Council and Linda Devine for city clerk.

In Seal Beach, council-members are elected by residents in the district they serve. In Seal Beach, the seats held by Miller in the College Park East district and Sloan in College Park West and parts of Leisure World are open.

1) Demi Devaney Total unknown, not even sure if I have ever seen her at a City Council Meeting 2) Dean Grose Also known as "The Watermelon Mayor", Dean has run 4 times and been elected once. That one time he resigned after making Los Alamitos a International disgrace. 3) Richard Murphy Active at City Council Meeting for the last three or four years. Strong background in finance. Not clearly in either the current majority or minority's pocket. Was up for consideration for a Commission seat which was killed by the current majority, butr claims he has no ill will based on that. 4)Ken Stephens Part of the current majority who participated in the selection of the current trash hauler in violation of the City Municipal Code (per a Superior Court Judge). Is considered by many as the weakest current sitting member of the City Council. When Mr. Grose resigned made one of the two best selections for replacing the seat (Ms. Yee) and then abandoned her and joined the Poe/Edgar majority without defending her or explaining why she was a better choice. There is still time for those that pulled papers but didn't file to file as Mrs. Poe (an incumbent) did not file and that created an automatic extension. Tick-Tock...
