Carmageddon, The Rampture ... A Stop-Calypse?

For 6 hours Monday, the signals at 2nd and PCH will go dark, and stop signs will regulate one of the busiest intersections in Long Beach. Will traffic madness ensue?

We'll give it to you straight. Then, we'll offer a challenge.

In order to continue roadwork meant to ease traffic at Pacific Coast Highway and Second Street, the City of Long Beach announced on its Facebook page that signal lights need to be turned off from 9 p.m. Monday until 3 a.m. Tuesday. In their place, stop signs -- and frontier law? -- will govern the "gateway" intersection for six hours.

Besides suggesting abstinence, as in "you do not want to go there," Patch would like to hear your ideas for traffic nickname ("A Stop-Calypse" was our best shot) and the best "dark and stormy night" prediction.

:-) Nothing punny, but how about some time-lapse cameras on each corner? Maybe a job for those Jay & Silent Bob-ish college filmmakers....
