Assembly Race No Closer to Resolution

The political fate of two candidates is uncertain as the 72nd Assembly race remains too close to call.

Another day of ballot counting has done little to separate the two candidates fighting for the second spot on the November ballot for the 72nd Assembly race representing cities such as Rossmoor, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and Fountain Valley

Over the last 24 hours, Republican Travis Allen’s lead over Democrat Joe Dovinh shrunk to by 29 votes. The financial planner from Huntington Beach holds a 336 vote lead over Dovinh, a Garden Grove Planning Commissioner.

Over the next week the Orange County Registrar of voters will tally 17,000 provisional and absentee ballots, the outcome of which will determine whether the November election will be all-Republican. Los Alamitos Mayor Troy Edgar (R) is the race’s clear winner with 28.3 percent of the votes compared to Allen, the next highest vote-getter with 11,114 votes.
