They put on brave faces, fought back tears and held on tight, not knowing when they would hug again. Hundreds of family members gathered this morning to see their loved ones head off to Kuwait.

Nearly 150 California Army National Guard soldiers deployed from the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos today. The 140th Chemical Company will participate in training at Camp Shelby in Mississippi before heading to Kuwait to conduct security operations at U.S. military installations during its overseas mission.
