A man believed to have robbed the US Bank in Seal Beach in November was shot today by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies after a high-speed pursuit from Placentia to Paramount. His suspected accomplice was caught five hours later following a manhunt.
He survived the shooting and remains hospitalized. However, police aren’t releasing information about his condition.
A pair of men suspected of being the ``Market Duo'' bandits, who have robbed a number of banks inside Orange County grocery stores, allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo branch located inside the Stater Bros. grocery store in Placentia at about 2:15 p.m. today, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. They are believed to have held up the same bank branch Nov. 21, she added.
The Los Angeles County deputy-involved shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m. in the 8100 block of Century Boulevard, said Deputy Benjamin Grubb of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. The shooting apparently happened when the suspects' vehicle came to a stop.
The holdup ended up in a pursuit that led from Placentia to Paramount, where one suspect was shot and the second remained at large while police set up a perimeter and scoured the area. He was taken into custody after 7 p.m., according to a sheriff’s spokesman.
``We believe it's the Market Duo based on the same MO and same description,'' Eimiller said.
Placentia police pursued the suspects, following them on the Riverside (91) Freeway, Eimiller said.
The Market Duo bandits are also suspected of robbing a U.S. Bank branch at 2101 W. Imperial Highway in La Habra on Oct. 25 and another U.S. Bank branch inside at 1101 Pacific Coast Highway in Seal Beach on Nov. 3, according to FBI Special Agent Chris Gicking.
