Seal Beach Man Who Held Police in Standoff Back in Court Today

A Seal Beach man, who police allege evaded arrest, engaged in a 2-hour standoff and assaulted officers is scheduled to be back in court today.

A 31-year-old Seal Beach man who, according to police, led them on a short chase and barricaded himself in his home for a two-hour standoff Monday, will appear in court today for a pretrial hearing

Today Husamiddin Mubashshir remains in custody at the Orange County Jail on 15,000 bail after pleading not guilty to one felony count of evading a police officer and reckless driving and three misdemeanor counts of resisting and battering a peace officer and driving on a suspended license.

Mubashshir was arrested this month following a two-hour standoff in the military housing complex off Anchor Way. The incident began when Husamiddin Mubashshir refused to heed officers’ calls to pull over and instead led them on a chase to his home on Anchor Way, where he barricaded himself for two hours, according to police.

Officers had tried to pull Mubashshir over after they received a call of a domestic dispute in the area of 12th and Pacific Coast Highway. When police arrived on the scene, a woman told them her husband, Mubashshir, had dropped her off and left the area, but shortly after that the police officers watched him drive by, according to Sgt. Steve Bowles.

When they tried to stop Mubashshir, he fled and led officers on a short chase to his home in the military housing complex off Seal Beach Boulevard, according to Bowles. When police entered the house, Mubashshir fled out the back sliding glass door and assaulted the officers as they attempted to apprehend them, Bowles said.
