SBPD Partners with Group to Train Kids to Defend Themselves Against Sexual Abuse

From the Seal Beach Police Department:

The Seal Beach Police Department is once again pleased to announce our partnership with Erin Runnion and The Joyful Child Foundation to bring the BE BRAVE program to Seal Beach.

BE BRAVE is a newly designed 90-minute, age-appropriate training for boys and girls in grades K thru 6 that includes verbal and physical skills to defend against sexual abuse, violence, and abduction.

The BE BRAVE program was designed by Erin Runnion to nurture each student’s ability to recognize potential dangers, verbalize discomfort or a need for help, and physically resist abduction, assault, or violence.

The Joyful Child Foundation was established in loving memory of Samantha Runnion. Samantha was a bright, creative, and loving little girl. She encouraged her friends and siblings to try their best and “Be Brave.” Samantha’s greatest gift was finding and sharing the joy in all that she did.

The cost of the class is $25. Classes will be held approximately once per month
beginning in June. Parents are encouraged to attend their children’s workshop. Please refer to the www.thejoyfulchild.org for all questions regarding the program, schedule and registration.
