UPDATED: Rossmoor Jogger Attacked, Police Search for Suspect

A woman jogging along Bostonian Drive in Rossmoor was attacked and stabbed by an unknown assailant tonight. Police are searching for the suspect.

A 28-year-old woman was being treated today for three stab wounds inflicted by a man who attacked her as she jogged in Rossmoor, authorities said.

The woman was grabbed from behind and stabbed at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday while she jogged on Bostonian Drive, according to Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

Though hurt, the woman knocked the knife out of the assailant's hand, but he managed to knock her down and stabbed her two more times, Armormino said, adding that the victim was stabbed in the face, arm and hand, suffering non- life-threatening wounds.

Hearing the woman's screams, a resident of the upscale community rushed outside, and the assailant fled on a BMX bicycle, Amormino said. Amormino said the assailant was a thin Hispanic man in his early 20s who wore dark clothing and a baseball cap. The man made no attempt to sexually assault the victim, Amormino said, calling the attack random.

Umm, someone has too much free time on their hands. Anyways, how about mentioning the OCSD Deputy said the woman was stabbed in the face. You make it seem like she was acosted for some change rather than an assault with a deadly weapon. But I guess if it would have occurred in Los Alamitos you would have labled it gang warfare with a massive shootout following.

Roger, That is such an inane remark from you! Instead of showing empathy for someone who was criminally attacked & severely injured, you make up some ridiculous "what if" scenario. A Rossmoor Latina

How about some information on what is being done to find this person. We have many families that live in this otherwise peaceful neighborhood.

Sheesh I was walking my dogs just a block away when this all went down... I didn't notice anything until I saw the sheriff Helo flying over with his God light on... That must be why the dogs were barking..... sad deal indeed! I have stated before on this blog site, that none of this stuff happened until Target was completed, bringing in a less than desirable element... and now with Toys R Us that only compounds the problems... Auto break in's have sky rocketed in numbers in the past 5-7 years as have the home invasion robberies.... All of these stores were brought in by Seal Beach... Rossmoor homeowners were quite content with the way things used to be... very ad indeed! My prayers go out to the young lady and her family... I will be carrying a weapon from now on....

How about telling us where this attack was? I walk my dog around Rossmoor School a few nights a week. They do need brighter street lights around the school, it is very, very dark on the school side of the street at night. Can't pickup after my dog very well since it is SO dark! It would also be nice if the school put trash cans inside the chained entrances so people don't have to walk up the school driveway to their dumpers, which are in a very dark area at night. Some of the street lights near Rossmoor Way on the school side are so old and rusted at their bases that I worry they will fall down if my dog pees on them. The bottom line is don't go out on a dark night alone now. Things have changed for the worse with the new shopping center. Things need upgrading to offset this new influx of people coming thru our neighborhood. Take a dog or friend till there is better lighting and security measures.

@CDC The network news Placed the location of the attack at or adjacent to the corner of Bostonian, and Montecito.... so the southwest corner!

It appears crime is rising. Car break ins, rash of SUV seat thefts, burglaries, the older gentleman robbed at gunpoint by Farmers & Merchants bank on a morning walk, now this. Not to mention the persistent speeding around the outer loop. The police protection is seriously lacking.

Building a Target store does not bring crime into a community! Rossmoor is very nice, however it's surrounded by areas such as GG, LB & Los Al, which are less then desirable to live in! Whoever committed this insane crime didn't go to Target by a knife stab a woman & then ride off on a bike! Crime happens everywhere. It's unfortunate & my heart goes out to the family of the jogger.

Er sorry but you are nuts... No one said he went to target to get the knife...... seriously did you say that? However Since the opening of Target there has been a noticeable jump in crime in Rossmoor, and then again an increase with the opening of In n' Out Burgers. These places are drawing cards, that draw in shall we say an undesirable element that normally would not be there. Check with the OC Sheriff they keep very accurate statistics on this. Couple all of that with a poor economy and you have a problem in Rossmoor. The bad element of the surrounding communities would not have come over this way without something to draw them here.. Target was the primary cause. Myself and my family have owned homes in Rossmoor since 1958, and we have seen the growth of the area, and now it modest decline due to the increased crime.... we used to have a volunteer watch program, and it seems we need to start it up once again... So Er, rather than just making inane remarks how about helping out with the problem, I have! in the last 5 years alone I have made no less than 17 calls to the OC Sherif while out walking the dogs in the evenings, and twice I have actually help apprehend suspects.... one was trying to break into my garage, the other was trying to steal my classic truck from my driveway. Everyone can be more vigilant, and keep their eyes open.
