The National Weather Service has issued a warning about strong rip currents this weekend.
Rip currents earlier this month were deadly for a number of people.
- In Newport Beach, a lifeguard drowned in the line of duty. Ben Carlson was able to rescue a swimmer before he went under.
- In Malibu, a 66-year-old man drowned at Zuma Beach.
- In Rancho Palos Verdes, a 19-year-old cliff diver clinging to a rock and waiting for help was swept away by a wave and died.
"The temperatures are perfect for enjoying the coastline... but the rip currents aren't," says a press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "If you decide to enjoy the coastline, please use your best judgment when entering the water. If you're not sure about wave conditions, please ask a lifeguard."
