Explorers from the Seal Beach Police Department enjoyed an afternoon in the sun over the weekend.
The police explorers spent Sunday at the Outdoor Education Center in Irvine Regional Park trying their hand at archery, riding a zip line, paper target shooting with BB guns and swimming, according to Seal Beach police Cpl. Michael Henderson.
Police Explorers are typically busy assisting with various community events such as the Seal Beach Christmas Parade, the Seal Beach 5k/10k, the Seal Beach Car Show and the West County Community Emergency Response Team.

"Explorers are given the opportunity to attend a Police Explorer Academy to learn about police procedures and develop new skills," Henderson said in a released statement. "They also can “ride along” with Seal Beach Patrol Officers to better learn what a career in law enforcement entails."
The Seal Beach Police Department Police Explorer program is open to all young adults ages 14 to 21. The Exploring Program helps emphasizes career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience.
