LA Angels' Torii Hunter Held at Gunpoint in His Own Home

Officers aim weapons at the Angels right fielder after he accidentally sets off his home security system. He later thanks police for protecting his property.

Newport Beach police caught Los Angeles Angels right fielder Torii Hunter off guard Wednesday afternoon when a false alarm led them to show up at his Newport Coast home with guns drawn.

On his Twitter account, Hunter later said the close call with police started after he accidentally set off the security system while entering his home on Coral Cay.

"My alarm went off in my house while I was in it. Twenty mins later I saw cops checking out the scene. Went outside and they drew their guns on me," Hunter tweeted. "They didn't believe I lived here in Newport coast so they walked me upstairs at gunpoint to get my ID."

Police confirmed officers were dispatched to Hunter's home in response to an alarm call. Hunter said once he was able to prove his identity, the mood changed quickly.

"When I showed him my ID, he said I'm an angel fan hope u guys have a great season," Hunter tweeted. "ARE U KIDDING ME!!!!!! Lol."

Hunter said he was thankful police responded to the alarm call and said they did a great job protecting his home.

"I'm not upset that the cops did their job today. I'm actually glad they were protecting home," Hunter tweeted.
