Hundreds attended the city's National Night Out at the Seal Beach Pier Tuesday.
Sponsored by the Seal Beach Police Department, the event was aimed at lowering crime rates, raising awareness of local anti-crime efforts and helping people get to know their local law enforcement officers.
From 6 to 9 p.m. at Eisenhower Park, members of the SBPD, Seal Beach Marine Safety Department, Orange County Fire Authority, California Highway Patrol and the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station were on hand to teach residents about what they do and how they do it.
According to the National Night Out website, in 2011 about 37 million people in 15,110 communities in America, Canada and military bases took part in the event. This year will be the 29th National Night Out and the fifth year for the city.
