Police are looking for a man who held up a Los Alamitos bank Tuesday armed with a butcher’s knife.
Just after 9:30 a.m., the silent alarm at the US Bank on Pine Street was activated. By the time police arrived, the suspect had fled on foot with an unspecified amount of cash. Officers from Los Alamitos, Seal Beach and Cypress conducted a search of the area, but the suspect had already disappeared.
According to bank employees, the man walked into the bank, displayed a butcher’s knife and forced employees to hand over money. No one was injured in the robbery.
The suspect is described as 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds with a goatee. At the time of the burglary, he was wearing sunglasses, a black cap, a long-sleeved black shirt and jeans and carried a black backpack.
The Los Alamitos Police Department and the FBI are investigating the case. Authorities released surveillance images of the robber in hopes that someone could help identify him. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Detective Chris Karrer at 562-431-2255 ext. 473.
