Man Dies in Jump from 405 Overpass

UPDATE: The south side of the freeway was reduced to one lane for hours after a 28-year-old leapt off the Edinger bridge and was struck by several cars.

A man died after he jumped off an overpass onto the south 405 Freeway in Westminster and was struck by several vehicles, police said.

A bicycle was found on the shoulder of the road after someone reported the body in the road at Edinger Avenue at 10:34 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, the man was found without any identification. He jumped from the north side of the Edinger Avenue overpass, between Newland Street and Beach Boulevard, Westminster police Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze said.

He was later identified as Brian Beliveau, 28. He would have turned 29 on Tuesday, according to the coroner's office.

All but one lane was closed for the investigation, and the road was reopened about 1 a.m.
