Man Claims Someone Switched $15,000 Painting With Fake

Also in recent Seal Beach crime calls, someone reported a $650 Marin Mountain Bike, which had been locked on a front porch, stolen.

CITIZEN ASSIST

  • 03/25/2013 — 12:36 a.m. — Ocean Avenue — A man said he was being followed by someone. According the dispatcher, the call was later classified as unfounded because the man admitted to having a drug problem. The man declined medical attention and left for home in a taxi.

COUNSELING

  • 03/26/2013 — 8:06 a.m. —Central Avenue —  Juvenile boys were reported jumping off a nearby third-story roof into a pool.

SMOKE

  • 03/26/2013 — 12:48 p.m. — Jade Cove and Marlin — Firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority were dispatched to a location across from Pacific Coast Highway after someone reported a lot of smoke coming from the neighborhood, possibly in the Jade and Marlin area. It turned out a construction crew was paving the street causing some smoke.

GRAND THEFT

  • 03/26/2013 — 1:52 p.m.  —  El Dorado Drive — A caller said he gave a $15,000 painting to a woman in Leisure World to hold for him. However, while the painting was at the woman’s home, the caller alleged, it was changed out with a fake, similar painting.  The man had been planning to give it to an art center, and then they said it was a fake. The man alleges the original was stolen while in the woman’s care in Leisure World.

PETTY THEFT

  • 03/26/2013 — 4:06 p.m. — South Port Lane — Two days ago someone stole a black Marin Mountain Bike valued at $650, which was locked and on the front porch.
